The Project

The SESI - Guaíra Theatre Dramatic Arts Centre is an educational project aimed at the discovery and development of new dramatists and the improvement and development of experienced ones

The Project consists of two stages:

1) Evaluation of dramatic texts sent to the Dramatist Centre - Through an "open doors" policy unpublished dramatic texts written by new authors are evaluated by the literary coordination of the Centre.

2) Development of dramatic writing skills through a dramaturgy course, during which several workshops, encounters, dramatic readings and conferences with dramatists, among other activities, are offered to new authors who are identified by a curatorship as talents with a potential for development, as well as the offering of dramatic readings and seminars for the community.

This initiative, innovative in State Culture, originated in 2009, through a partnership with the Guaíra Theatre Cultural Centre and the cultural support of the British Council. The formation of new authors is carried out through workshops, encounters, lectures, and conferences ministered by renowned national or regional dramatists throughout the year. Conceived and carried out by Sesi PR, the Dramatic Arts Centre is one of several programmes and actions performed by the institution aimed at bringing to industry workers and the general community the access to knowledge and cultural goods.

In 2012, the Sesi Paraná Dramatic Arts Centre was joined by its partner in realisation: the Guaíra Theatre Cultural Centre. After this partnership, the Dramaturgy and Staging workshops were offered the premises of the José Maria dos Santos Theatre for the taking place of its encounters, as well as the entire structure of the largest theatre in Paraná. The Dramatic Arts Centre was thereafter named: Sesi  - Guaíra Theatre Dramatic Arts Centre.

Goals

• To establish a centre for the development and improvement of dramatists and stage directors, becoming a reference in Brazilian theatre;

• To offer a long-term project with excellence, focussing in the betterment of talents in dramaturgy and other creative texts for the dramatic arts;

• To stimulate the creation of dramaturgies that express new world views, languages and aesthetic experiences;

• To establish an exchange of local authors with renowned dramatists in the national and international scenarios;

• To enhance contemporary artistic creation, which evokes new perceptions, provocations and questions for its audience;

Arts students, writers, actors, directors, producers, screenwriters and other interested parties.
